The Lord of the Mystic Arts is a character of great charm and elegance! He owes his birth to Steve Ditko and Stan Lee, who in 1963 decided to enrich their superheroes world with a true wizard, equipped with supernatural powers and destined to stories decidedly unrelated to the traditional narrative criteria of the time (starting with the deadly challenges against the Lord of the Dark Dimension, Dormammu). Therefore, from the beginning, originality and charisma have been the fundamental traits of Doctor Strange; traits that nowadays are emphasized by figurative techniques and designs well behind those early years and more appropriate to describe the dreamlike scenarios that always served as the backdrop to the main adventures of the hero. The Doctor Strange Statue, sculpted by the Kucharek brothers and released in 2006 with an edition size of 2000 pieces, is very faithful to the tables of Comics and depicts the character in his classic tunic, wrapped by an extraordinary cloak, in one of the most typical poses, ready to cast one of his powerful spells. The body is in a frontal position with the face turned sideways and both the gaze and the left arm are pointed against the hypothetical enemy. The physique is lean and slender, with the muscles on legs only partially shown; the rest of the body, in fact, is covered by the numerous folds of the large suit. The whole figure is heavily characterized by the huge red cloak, decorated to perfection, with a wide golden garnish along the edge, which ends behind the head with the typical and high multi-tip shaped lapel; its folds, carved with great skill, provide an excellent visual impact (although considerably bulky) and a perception of extreme naturalness. Also the polychromy of the figure is notable, due to the beautiful blue tunic (enriched by a central design in a lighter blue and a fitting buckle on chest) and an orange cloth belt at waist. Even the somatic traits are very similar to Comics. In fact, the face is characterized by thick eyebrows and very well defined black mustache, hollow cheeks, the typical white streaks at the temples, narrow eyes and a very impressive "ice expression", focused on target and of great pride. The base is fairly simple but well crafted, orange and circular in shape, with a black symbol carved in relief which provides a good visual impact. Despite the rather wide run, the availability of this statue has always been quite limited and its market quotations, in the last years, have exhibited an incredible rise; in all likelihood, this is due to the undeniable aesthetic impact, the charm of the character and the excellent chromatic contrast that characterizes the piece. Qualities that every passionate collector is hardly willing to give up!
